Revlon ColorStay 12 Hour Eye Shadow Quad "Blushed Wines": Swatches + Review!!

You all may or may not know this about me but I have a bit of a thing for nostalgia.
I also have adopted the habit of switching up my blushes and eyeshadows each month in order to not get stuck in any ruts as well as to show all of my makeup some love.

So, when May rolled on in last week, I couldn't help but choose this eyeshadow quad from Revlon as my May eyeshadow palette; the colors scream Spring (especially now that it has finally sprung #propsmothernature #tookyoulongenough) but most importantly this was my everyday eyeshadow palette throughout high school. I dabbled in a few other (regrettable) looks but this was always my fallback, my go-to, my beloved (ugh shut up self... just take the jump if you want more makeup mush).

I'm kind of upset to see that this particular quad has been discontinued (only to be replaced by the new ColorStay quads which are absolute FAILS... I'll do a review on the one that I own soon after this so you can see a comparison and cry a little with me) however this is still available on Ulta's website for a few bucks (literally $3.29 or something like that) and these are definitely still kicking around eBay (for a normal drugstore price) so I would recommend picking one up before they're gone for good.

"Blushed Wines" is such a gorgeous and delicate mix of pinks, plums, and mauves; it really does give you everything needed to create a very neutral daytime look that's different from your typical browns and taupes (which I gravitate towards, oh I don't know, ALL OF THE TIME). I wish I could say I chose this quad in high school because I was super makeup-creative and wanted to do something different from everyone else without looking crazy but in reality I just went with purples because I knew it was supposed to make green eyes pop.

Regardless, these sorts of colors are something that I wish more people would really catch on to regardless of their eye color. Mauve-y plums and pinks are such great neutrals and can look extremely youthful and fresh when done properly.

This particular set of Revlon shadows are so soft, smooth, and pigmented (basically the opposite of the new Revlon ColorStay quads) which makes application a dream. The fact that all the colors you need for a look are right in the same palette is also a huge plus since usually I have to combine two different palettes to get all of the colors I need.
Also, I didn't know about eyelid primer back in high school and I never had trouble with fading or creasing with these shadows. They really do stay put once you put them on your lids! I remember one time, after spending an afternoon swimming in a lake behind a friend's house, one of my friends looked at me and asked "how does your makeup still look perfect after being in a lake all day???" Yup. These were that good.

Ahhh, this is what high school looked like (minus the addition of acne and over-plucked brows).
There's just something so fresh about this palette that I can't put my finger on but I know is there; maybe it's the throwback to my 'youth', maybe it's the way these colors look so natural and bright on my complexion... either way I am so pleased to have plucked this quad out from my makeup drawer to use again this month.

Have you tried the old (or new) Revlon ColorStay Eye Shadow Quads?
Love 'em? Hate 'em?
What is your current palette for everyday?
Do share!!

xoxo - Cassie

    1. Isn't it though?? I'll never understand why companies get rid of such amazing products (especially when they replace them with worse products)! :(

  5. The shades look lovely on you, very soft and brightening! I can imagine the nostalgia of revisiting this palette when you used it in high school - at least you've pulled it out and been reminded of why you loved it in the first place :)

  9. I know this post was some time ago, but I came across it while searching for the Revlon Colorstay eyeshadow blushed wines. I know it is discontinued, but was looking to see if I could find some anywhere. I have not been able to find any colors that I loved like I did the blushed wines. Have you found any colors that are similar?

  11. I hate to revive an old post, but I'm desperate and hoping you've found a dupe for these gorgeous shadows (mainly the two darkest colors) since the last person asked you. Maybe something in the Naked 3 palette? Not that I would buy it for just two colors...well...maybe. Never say never, right? 😉
I also have green eyes (I'm also a Twin Citian...yay for spring!) and I always get compliments when I wear these shadows. Anything even remotely similar would be fantastic!
    *fingers crossed*
