Do these nails look familiar? They would if you have an extraordinary memory and are an avid viewer of my YouTube videos; this was the manicure I had on for my "Makeup Collection | Vanity Tour (LIPSTICK, PERFUME, ORGANIZATION, ETC.) " video as well as my "Best & Worst of Beauty: August '14" video. And while I would usually feel that posting daisy nails at this time of the year was a bit seasonally 'inappropriate' (though honestly who am I kidding considering I have no problems wearing dark purple lips in the summer and corals in the winter), the weather has been switching between back and forth between fall 40's and summer (high) 70's.
My rage is real.
Thank goodness, so is the adorable level of these nails; let's reminisce about them and lazy summer days together, shall we?
I'm a huge fan of the Revlon ColorStay polishes (the brush is wide and flat, the polish is creamy and opaque, etc.) so, when I saw they made a gel version of the formula I was pretty freaking pumped to say the least. I decided to try out "Dealer's Choice", a shimmering aqua-teal, but I'm bummed to say I wasn't as impressed with the formula as its predecessor. It's a bit thicker (read: gloopier) so I struggled to get it to not bubble on my nails. Application issues didn't end there though because the dry time ended up being excruciatingly long; it's one of those polishes that feels dry but then, two or three hours later, you bump your nail against something and there's a big dent in the polish.
So, to remedy the formula flaws (the polish was too gorgeous in terms of color to take off) I decided to whip out a bobby pin and put daisies over the bubbly bits! Genius if I do say so myself *guffaw*. Five white dots, one pale yellow in the center, and then—for an extra bit of girly glitz—I plopped a gold piece of glitter in the centers as well.
I honestly thought this manicure was adorable; the little addition of a sparkly gold center on the daisies was what really added the d'awww to this otherwise simple and seen-before design in my eyes. Loved it! Even if my initial feelings while painting my nails that day was less than so.
Have you tried the Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy polishes?
Did you have the same bad experience with the formula as I did?
What's creative fixes have you come up with for nail polish blunders?
Do share!

Yes! I'm so glad it wasn't just me. I don't paint my nails often but when I get new colors if they don't work well the first time I frequently give up. I used Showtime for Halloween and it took forever to dry! Also it looked blue in the bottle and came out very very purple. Also the lasting power was not "gel" worthy.
ReplyDeleteWell shoot I'm sorry to hear that you had the same experience with this line of polishes!!! They really aren't that great :(
DeleteHa! I just watched your makeup collection video today! I love that nail design!
ReplyDeleteHaha yay, nice timing!! And thank you I'm glad you like it ^__^
DeleteErm, so cute! So much attention to detail and you painted them so well, no wobbly lines here :) Love the glitter in the middle of the flowers, it really completes the look.
ReplyDeleteAw thank you!! So glad you liked this design of mine <3
DeleteLOVE it! What a way to make that lemonade outta the lemons, perfect! Too bad about the new colorstay though, I haven't tried any yet, but now I know to not bother. I actually found the original a tad too goopy to deal with, but the base coat plays well w other brands (thanks to the beauty community I found that out!) I do love that main colour though, kinda cadet blue meets teal...I really wanna do this w a blushy/nude base bc it reminds me of Marc Jacobs Daisy eau So Fresh! LOVE that bottle! Kudos for turning a mess into art, I just stress out and start over.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I actually picked up another one recently (I don't know what's wrong with me honestly) and the formula was a LOT better (I forget what the name of it is but it's a light pink color) albeit not the greatest… you're not missing out on much :/ But thank you overall, I'm glad you liked the design!!
DeleteLove them! How did you manage to get a single tiny minuscule glitter right in the centre of each flower?? This is so pretty tho, I really want to try it!

I just wiped the wand on a piece of plastic and then picked up individual pieces of glitter with a dotting tool to place on the center of the daisies!! Easy peasy :) Glad you like the manicure!
Deletethis is the best manicure EVER, i love it so much!!
ReplyDeleteHaha wow thank you Alicia I'm so glad you like it!! ^__^
