My Top Spring Lipsticks!

I'm not sure what it is about the changing of seasons that warrants switching up makeup products based on color but this Spring I'm embracing it in full force.
Bring on the brights!
Bring on the mattes!
Bring on the sheer pops!

Honestly, when it comes down to it though, I'm pretty sure I'm just embracing these changes because there are so many tempting products on the market right now (do I even need to mention the Maybelline Vivids collection? *swoon*) and I'm trying to be a good girl by putting my money towards more important things (i.e. groceries, paying off loans... the boring non-fulfilling things, essentially).
Clearly I have enough makeup so it's time to appreciate the things I already have (let's see how long this lasts)!!

Take the jump if you want to see what I'm going to be wearing the most in these upcoming Spring months :)

Wet n Wild 901B "Think Pink" / CoverGirl 405 "Fairytale" / Revlon Matte 005 "Strawberry Suede"

To start things off I wanted to show you all my top three matte lipstick picks for this Spring.

Wet n Wild's "Think Pink" is a lovely baby pink that has yellow undertones rather than the typical blue; since I have a warm skin tone this means it's incredibly flattering (the typical baby pinks wash me out) and pops rather than pukes (bet you didn't know that was possible) on my lips.

Some of you might think I'm crazy for putting CoverGirl's "Fairytale" in the matte section of this post but, while this is more of a cream formula, it definitely dries down to a matte finish on my lips. It is an absolutely GORGEOUS shade of pinky-coral and never fails to get me at least one compliment each time I wear it.

I felt a little conflicted about including Revlon's "Strawberry Suede" in this post because it is a discontinued color (why Revlon? WHY???). However, you can still find these kicking around on eBay (though sadly with a semi-high price tag [usually $13-$18]) so I figured I would include it anyways because this color is all sorts of amazing. It's definitely a muted strawberry with a slightly orange/coral undertone mixed in. The color is so unique and an absolute standout on the lips; if you've been lusting over this one I would definitely take the plunge and nab this on eBay before they're gone forever!

tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint "lively" / MUFE Rouge Artist Intense 40 / Revlon Creme 440 "Cherries In The Snow"

Up next I've got my satin/creme finish lipstick picks for this Spring!

So of course I have to start things off a bit complicated; tarte's "lively" is advertised as a matte product but I have to disagree and say that it's a mix between a satin and a creme finish. There is indeed no shine to the swatch here but when it's on my lips there is absolutely a sheen to it. Regardless, this is a beautifully vivid fuschia; seriously, google "fuschia" and the first image of the flower you see is exactly what this looks like in person. It. Is. STUNNING.
MUFE's 40 was, surprisingly, one of my first lipstick purchases. For whatever reason I passed over the pinks, disregarded the reds, and said F*** THIS I WANT ORANGE. Still, being a timid newbie to lipstick I couldn't bring myself to get M.A.C.'s "Morange" (scared the living p*** out of me) so instead I opted for this beauty. It's still a bright orange, believe me, but it's slightly more subdued than "Morange" and has more of a saturated and pink undertone.
I know that Revlon's "Cherries In The Snow" looks fairly identical to tarte's "lively" but you've got to believe me when I say they're quite different!! Yes they're both fuschia but "Cherries In The Snow" is much more of a cool toned raspberry compared to the warm toned strawberry that "lively" is. Plus it's truly a creme formula so it's got much less of a sheen to it and applies like a dream.

M.A.C. "Plumful" / Revlon Lip Butter "Juicy Papaya"

These are, hands down, (spoiler alert for my Best & Worst of Beauty this month!!) my absolute favorite lip products at the moment. They're both a wonderfully sheer yet saturated (I don't even care that that makes no sense) color to throw on your lips and both, though different makes and brands, smell like delicious vanilla creme.

M.A.C.'s "Plumful" (original review hurr) is a gorgeous plum shade (they named it well) with some slight fuschia tones to it as well. It's a bit sheer (being the lustre finish that it is) so it looks slightly different on everyone but can be built up to look nearly opaque. I get countless compliments whenever I wear this lipstick and I really can't fault people for doing that (not because of my ego but because this lipstick is GORGEOUS).

Revlon's "Juicy Papaya" is my newest addition (I just couldn't resist) and my newest love. It is THE PERFECT sheer wash of peachy coral to give you that effortless girl-next-door look. I know a lot of people have been saying that the new lip butters from Revlon are disappointing/the formula is different from the old ones but I didn't have that experience at all (granted I didn't purchase or try the other three) with "Juicy Papaya".

*****

So there you have it folks!!
It was a big roundup but I really am showing a lot of love to these particular lipsticks this Spring and wanted to share the love with you all :)

What are your favorite lip products of the season?
Have you tried any of the ones I shared?
Love 'em? Hate 'em?
Do share!!

xoxo - Cassie

  6. Gorgeous shades! Still waiting for Revlon to release the new Lip Butter colours here in Oz. Plumful is super pretty - especially as I'm finding myself drawn to more purpleish lip colours lately. I do have Strawberry Suede and you've reminded me I need to give it a bit more love :)

  8. STRAWBERRY SUEDE *flails* WHY?! WHY?! Ugh! I wants it :3
Juicy Papaya looks tasty! I want all the new colors just because they sound so good! (Wish my mom wasn't watching my bank balance, I'd nab this in a heart beat!) Also, that Orange shade is TOO DIE for! My first lipstick was a bright red/orange so you're not the only one who for-went the pinks and neutrals! I still look over them, every time haha!

So glad I'm not the only one who went for an orange lipstick right off the bat, we're clearly makeup twins haha ;)

  10. I love all the colors. Do you do anything to make the lipsticks last longer? I feel they don't last long on me at all, no matter which brand

    1. Hi, thanks so much!! And no I really don't have any tricks... I just try not to rub my lips together too often/lick my lips/etc and that usually allows even my drugstore lipsticks to last 3-4 hours before needing a touch-up. I think keeping my lips well moisturized when I'm not wearing lipsticks helps too; dry patches and flakiness will obviously cause the lipstick to flake off easily as well :(

  14. I'm so happy you said plumful for the spring... I purchased it yesterday and was on the verge of returning it but now I'm happy I can keep and use it for spring... I think it leans more to the plum color on my lips so I know it's a prefect fall color for me.... I love it!!!!!

  16. I'm bummed, because the Juicy Papaya looked nice, and I bought it a coupe of weeks ago. It doesn't really do anything on my lips! Maybe I just have very dark lips... But, it just puts a sheen on my lips, and makes them look a little darker.
    Most bothersome!
