CoverGirl outlast stay fabulous 3-in-1 foundation: Swatches + Review!

Many people put "end procrastination" near the top (underneath "loose a stupid amount of weight under the guise of 'getting healthy'" of course) of their New Year's resolutions list. I myself embrace procrastination… not because I like it insert sadistic laughter here but because I'm pretty sure it's as much a part of me as is my milkshake (bringing all the boys to the yard since Y2K).
This CoverGirl outlast stay fabulous 3-in-1 foundation review could'a-should'a-would'a been written around the same time I did my first impression video a month ago or, heck, even a bit before I included it in my Best & Worst of Beauty video for December but you know what? It didn't happen; I'm over it; I'm here; let's live in the now. The way I see it all of this extra time to ponder my feelings about this foundation will actually lead to a better review (did I mention my justification skills are as much a part of me as my procrastination? #partnersincrime) wink wink.

If you watch even the tiniest amount of beauty videos on YouTube then there's no doubt in my mind that you've heard of the CoverGirl outlast stay fabulous 3-in-1 foundation. It is pimped, loved, and all around raved about by pretty much anyone and everyone; young and old; oily and dry. Since my Revlon Nearly Naked (and Neutrogena Tinted Moisturizer concoction) foundation was starting to majorly clash with my winter skin coloring, I decided to go crazy and not wait until I used it up (you know by now how I am with finishing up products) and treated myself to something new. There's nothing I love more than testing out overly-hyped products!!

To be honest, though I'd heard how "AH-MAAAAAzing" this foundation was I hadn't heard too much else about it. It's definitely a thicker foundation (opposed to the more watery formula that many drugstore foundations seem to be made of) that provides medium coverage and could absolutely be built up to full coverage with a second layer. Oddly enough, the thick consistency doesn't translate onto the skin in the sense that it feels absolutely weightless once applied. There's a bit of a learning curve in terms of blending this stuff (though that may just be because I'm used to working with sheerer foundations) but once you figure out your brush technique then you'll be streak free in no time.

I hope I don't need to disclose this but the photos here are untouched so you can see how the foundation applies atop dryer areas (underneath my mouth) and blemishes (cheek and forehead). It has the tendency to cake up on dry areas as well as places you may not have blended as nicely so you definitely have to prep your skin well before use (I've started using a facial oil that's done wonders for my dry patches) and concentrate to make sure you're painting your face to perfection (which, admittedly, can be a bit rough in the morning). Aside from those couple quirks though this is a solid foundation in terms of covering imperfections as well as staying power. This CoverGirl foundation won't budge throughout the day and looks exactly the same at the end of the day as when you first applied it.

Overall, I think the CoverGirl outlast stay fabulous 3-in-1 foundation is a charmer. It won't break the bank yet provides coverage (and a pump!!) that you usually have to go outside of the drugstore to find. I think the one thing that I would change is the finish; the back of the bottle doesn't lie when it says this is "shine free". There are no ifs, ands, or buts about it: this is a matte finish foundation and performs as such.
Like I said before, if you have dry skin or if you enjoy a bit more of a natural looking foundation then this isn't the one for you. People will be able to see your foundation when up-close-and-personal but hey if you don't get nose-to-nose with others all that often then you'll just look airbrushed and majestic from afar (gotta keep that mysterious air about you as a woman, amiright [or am I just sad and alone]?).

And just as a small side note: I've had a couple comments from readers/viewers that this foundation can break you out quite badly after a couple weeks of use. I've been lucky so far that my sensitive skin hasn't had this reaction but I figure it's something to take note of if you're acne prone. As a constant blemish sufferer myself I feel it's my duty to warn you; I've got your back (skin? Hmmm…)!!

  1. If you're concerned about breakouts/ have sensitive skin, try Physicians Formula. The Mineral Wear Liquid Foundation is pretty full coverage and hasn't affected my sensitive skin as of yet. I've also heard good things about the new Organic Wear CC cream. The only issue with the brand is that they tend to have a very limited shade selection. :|

    1. I've never really thought about their foundations because they have such a limited shade range… I'll give it another look though, thanks! :)

  3. Looks really good on you! Thanks for the review. I may purchase this just to see how it works out for me and return if it doesn't - I love the finish but I have skin so dry that if I don't put moisturizer on, it's like my whole face flakes off haha. You have very pretty eyes, by the way n___n

  7. Your skin looks practically airbrushed in these photos of you wearing this foundation! I wish mine looked anything close to that when I wear this :p I bought a shade too light (though the next one up was too dark) so I always have to mix this with my too dark Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation. Seeing you feature this CG one in videos made me want to revisit it recently and I have to say I'm very pleased with the coverage. I just wish there was a perfect shade for me.

    1. Hahah it is kind of scary how photoshopped/airbrushed my skin looks in photos and on camera when I have this foundation on!! I'm glad you revisited the foundation and like it as well… to bad about the shades though :( It seemed like they had a good selection (there were at least 10-15 different colors at the Target I got mine at) but I guess there'll never be a line that has the perfect color for everyone. Poo!!!

  8. I've never thought much of the Covergirl foundations (with the exception the NatureLuxe) but this has been popping up all over all of the blogs I read! It's been on the top of my to-get list and your review just convinced me!

  9. The foundation looks gorgeous! If I wasn’t so prone to breakouts I think I’d be more inclined to try it myself… I might anyway. It really does look great. Have you used it since and noticed anything?

    1. Hi Lindsey!! I'm happy to report that I've been using this pretty much everyday (the only time I don't wear it is when I'm being a shut-in and not venturing out into the world) and have had not one sign of a breakout :) So it has my acne-prone skin stamp of approval!!

  12. I absolutely adore this foundation, but since I own a few others I tend to save it for special occasions when I want a very flawless finish. Well, I wore it two days in a row and now I have a lovely group of those under the skin painful pimples on my chin. I don't typically break out either. Nevertheless, I still love the foundation and get compliments when I wear it

    1. Oh no Jackie, I'm sorry to hear that that happened to you! I've had a lot of other people comment and say that this foundation breaks them out too, such a shame :(
