NOTD: Behind On Blogging Blues

The title says it all folks: I'm insanely behind on my blogging photo files and these nails happen to be blue. Clever huh (don't encourage me)? In all seriousness though I was quite shocked to see this file kicking around in my iPhoto albums list… this was from a freaking month ago! Granted, I do have photo albums of beauty products much older than this (it makes me sad too, don't worry) but with a manicure this special it's sad to see it go to waste!!

Something about spring weather makes me go blue nail polish cray cray… I mean, I just said "cray cray" so you know I'm serious about the level of crazy here. This particular manicure may be a month old but I've actually got blue on my nails right now (essie's "mint candy apple" which is, in my eyes, not mint at all but rather a robin's egg blue) so it feels appropriate to be posting this right now; not to mention it just feels good to get this out of the archives and into the public.

I wish I could take credit for this NOTD but I was actually inspired by my dear friend Salamanda! She was sporting it in our thrift swap video a month ago and that's where the love affair began. Obviously I loved watching her open up the thrifted goodies I sent to her but her nails also had me enamored. Somehow I had to replicate her creation so I went through my polishes, found essie's "bikini so teeny" and Sally Hansen's "Pacific Blue", and knew it was meant to be. Whether these were the colors Salamanda used herself or not I couldn't (can't? WHAT IS GRAMMAR) be bothered to care because I think the manicure turned out spectacularly!

I loved the quirk of having two accent nails (rather than the typical one) and I think the two colors worked quite harmoniously together. Making the triangles is really easy too and something I feel anyone could do, artist or not! Just paint your nail with the triangle color, letting it dry completely. Then, with your outside color, angle the brush from the inside of your cuticle to the far side of your nail tip and swipe!! Dip a q-tip in some nail polish remover and clean around the nail as per usual to get rid of any mess. Easy peasy!
In fact, if I wasn't about to go take a nap with Galileo (oh yeah, I live my days off to the fullest) I'd probably repaint my nails with these polishes right now...

What is your favorite spring nail polish?
Any colors you become obsessed with when warmer weather finally surfaces?
Do share!

xoxo - Cassie

  3. You show some dexterity coming up with this mani with just manual manoeuvring of the nail polish brush! I thought you did it the easy way and used tape to define the edges :p I don't think I would've thought of a light blue/darker blue combo but it works really well :)

  9. I've been all over Pretty Serious's Claris this spring, It's a pinky rosy base with just enough fine gold shimmer to pull it into coral range, but not so coral I can't wear it. I love corals and peachy shades, but they are really hard for me to wear well so this made me very happy.
