April '13 Birchbox!

Oh Birchbox, you're such a tease; last month you had me feeling slightly underwhelmed and then this month... THIS MONTH YOU WIN ALL OF MY LOVE.
I'm not sure how long I'll be able to emotionally handle this roller coaster ride of a relationship I have with you but considering I have a yearly subscription I'm pretty sure that means I'll have to get used to eating my feelings some months and rolling on the floor in delight (that's not supposed to sound dirty...) other months.

Wanna see what got me hot and bothered this month in tantalizing detail?
Take the jump my friend; I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Now that we have the obligatory explanatory (why does that sound so scientific and complicated???) card out of the way for those who like that sort of thing (I'm one of them, don't worry), let's take a look at the actual product contents of this month's Birchbox, shall we?

I pretty much didn't even care what this perfume smelt like, I was just so freaking giddy that the vial came with an actual spritz head. HALLELUJAH; I HOPE OTHER COMPANIES TAKE NOTE.

That aside, I am actually seriously in love with this fragrance.
It's simply beautiful in its beautiful simplicity (I'm completely serious and stand by that sentence); upon first spritz you get the crisp and vibrant mandarin which then dries down into notes of soft and sweet rose petals on sparkling champagne. And that's it. No gimmick, no crazy twist in the notes... just pure heavenly bliss in the form of a perfume.

Picture a classically beautiful woman; she doesn't scream chic and doesn't embellish but when she walks by you remember.
This is what she smells like.
And this is what I will smell like on any date or special occasion because it's just too tear inducingly beautiful for everyday use (and I don't like to make people cry that often).

Photographing this cleanser was how I imagine photographers feel when taking pictures full of deep fried smorgasbords (read: all brown food) for McDonalds; what do you do with it??

Ahem, that artistic dilemma aside, I'm really excited to try this out!!
My skin is blemish prone and sensitive (plus I'm lazy and love twofers) so this sounds right up my alley! Plus, just like with the perfume spritzer sample above, I really do mean it when I say packaging makes ALL the difference; just the fact that this came in a cute little one/two use pot makes me like it 10x more than if they would have given it to me in a rip open packet. Cheers!

What else can I say other than: THANK YOU BIRCHBOX.
A full size lip stick in pencil form that also doubles as a blush/stain (and does so beautifully, might I add)? Don't mind if I do.

I can't wait to try this out; so far I've just done the hand swatch business but even from that I already know that this is pigmented, smooth, smells delicious, and has great staying power.
This Mirenesse Glossy Kiss stick is a beautiful classic red (more blue toned, but not overtly so) and, as I'm sure you're all aware, I'm a lip product wh0re so I know I'll get a ton of use out of this :)

I will never turn down a hair treatment.
EVER.
My hair is just the type to get dry (though not necessarily always split) on the ends so I love running a good oil through the ends of my hair after a shower; I've never used a proper serum (or "elixer" as they call it... my inner gamer can't quite get used to the thought of elixers in real life though haha) before so this should be a real treat as my ends have been feeling a bit shabby lately!

Oh, and did you notice that this actually has a DROPPER HEAD???
Yeah; SO MUCH WINNING PACKAGING IN THIS BOX I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE IT BUT I'M SO FREAKING HAPPY ANYWAYS *tears and snot of joy*

Another beautifully packaged, wonderfully sized, and Cassie-targeted sample?
Oh Birchbox, you really know how to turn me on.

I should have taken a photo of this in my hand so you could see how big it is but, if you look at the first photo in this post of all the samples in the box, you can kind of sort of see that it's about the size of the Mirenesse Gloss Stick; it's HUGE!!!
Eye bags are one of my biggest facial woes (though a lot of it has to do with the fact that I have actual indents under my eyes that'll never go away #joy) so anything that combats puffy tired eyes (something I wake up to every morning) is right up my alley. I'm a big fan of the Garnier Anti-Dark-Circle Roller so I have high hopes that this'll be the same sort of thing since my Garnier one has definitely seen better days at this point and I was just about to buy a new one!

Oh yeah, Birchbox ALSO threw in a magazine subscription... a whole year for free? Why of course, thank you!! Honestly I don't even care what the magazine is (to be honest I'm not sure that I've ever cracked open an issue of Women's Health) but I love getting them in the mail so I'm glad to have another magazine to look forward to each month for a year!

BOOM.
That's it folks... wasn't that Birchbox amazing!??!?!?!!?
I'm seriously so enamored and just overall happy with this month's Birchbox; it helps to get a stellar box every now and then to reinforce the fact that this is a great beauty subscription service. Next month's box will have a hard time living up to April's but honestly even if it's only half as good that'll be pretty fantastic in my book.

Do you receive a Birchbox every month?
What was in your April box?
Don't subscribe to Birchbox?
What would you have liked to have received?
Do share!!

xoxo - Cassie

  3. Same exact box as mine! I wasn't too sure about everything and then I swatched the lipstick and was like, "HALLELUJAH!!" So nice! Can't wait to actually test it out (not just a swatch).

    1. I know, right??? I figured there was some sort of gimmick involved or something but nope! Free :) I haven't tried Simple's products before but have always been curious about them so I'm super pumped to try this little puppy out! I'll definitely let you know how/if this one works out ^__^

  5. You can pretty much get me to buy anything if the description claims it to look, smell or taste like "champagne"! The way you described that perfume makes me want it! I wonder if they have a "mid-size" version of it that doesn't cost $98 so I can love it and buy it! Birchbox's up and down boxes puts me off but I get to just live vicariously through yours! That eye de-puffer mechanism looks AWESOME. Even before I read your little blurb, I thought ... I should try it! Great post, as per usual, Cassie! :) xx

    1. I know, I'm SO SO SO SO sad that the perfume is so freaking expensive... maybe when I'm 40 I'll be able to afford it T__T But you should really give it a sniff if you can find it anywhere because it's GORRRRGEOUS. Haha I'm glad you can live vicariously through my Birchboxes Jess! It really can be up and down but I love getting the boxes every month :) Hopefully that eye roller is fantastic... I'll let you guys know either way. And thanks so much Jess!!! <33333

  6. You always get your box before me and I can't help but read your post and spoil the surprise. My first box in January was the same as yours but the last two months were different. In February, you got Mary Lou-Manizer and I was so pumped to get it but didn't. And honestly, I have been disappointed by my last two boxes. Last month, I got what I thought was a benefit Fakeup sample but it was just a card. Boo to that. I really hope my box is as good as yours or I'll be cancelling my monthly subscription. Any recommendations for other boxes?

    1. Haha it really is hard when other people get their box before you... I tend to spoil things for myself as well so no worries ;) And oh no, I'm so sorry that you haven't been happy with your boxes the last couple of months :((( I got that benefit Fake Up card as well and, before I saw it was just a card, I was like NOOOO I already bought this!! So for me it wasn't too big of a deal but it really was deceiving :/ I'll keep my fingers crossed that you like your box this month! And honestly I don't know of too many other boxes here in the US; the couple others that I've seen/heard of are either really expensive and only come every few months (NewBeauty TestTube) or else the products just don't seem so great (ipsy/myglam). Sorry I can't be of more help!!

  10. My Birchbox came today, and I'm happy to say that I was able to keep my eyes away from your post before it came in! It looks like the only thing we both got was the Simply eye roll-on. I got a pretty coral nailpolish, Supergoop CC Cream, hairspray, and shaving cream. This was my first Birchbox, so I'm so excited to try everything out!! That lip pencil looks so lovely!

    1. Oh yay, I'm so glad you were able to keep your box a surprise, especially for your first one!! I remember I used to be AWFUL at not looking online for what was potentially going to be in my box haha. Sounds like you got great stuff (I think I saw the polish you're talking about and it looked like a lovely color) though and I hope your Birchboxes continue to be wonderful!! :D
