benefit fake up: Swatches + Review!!

Dear benefit fake up: I am madly in love with you.
You aren't perfect, but you're everything.
EVERYTHING.

I know that doesn't make any sense whatsoever but I'm in love and love has no time for reason.
Take the jump for more lovesick ramblings!!

I think fake up had me at hello (oh yeah, I'm so in love that I'm going cheeseball on you).

The second I heard of this moisturizer with a core of concealer I basically had my credit card (and VIB card... gimme them points!!) in hand; if any of you remember me saying/writing in my Best & Worst of February video (around the 9:51 mark)/My Winter Skin Saviors blog post, I have had extremely dry (borderline scaly) skin underneath my eyes this winter so this hybrid concealer was screaming my wallet's name.

I had a feeling this wasn't going to be a heavy duty concealer like I'm used to using on my under-eye circles but, since that was looking cakey and overall disgusting (read: obvious I was trying [and failing] to hide something), I was ready for a change.

It's a little hard to show, but can you see in the first photo above the streak of moisturizer and then streak of concealer? That's essentially how this applies when rubbed underneath your eyes (or wherever you're using it? Weirdo) but then you have the extreme pleasure of blending it all in which you can see in the second photo above.
The moisturizing ring is, from what I can tell, almost a more solidified version of Vaseline (and has a similar smell, but it's nothing detectable... I was just curious and sniffed the stick haha). I love that it sinks into your skin to hydrate but also slightly sits on top for future hydration and to lend a sort of glow underneath your eyes.

(please click the above photo to see these shots larger and in better quality!)

See what I mean when I say that this product isn't perfect but it's everything??
By no means does it completely cover my eye bags (though that's partially due to the fact that they're an actual indent in my face #foreverattractive) but it adds the most lovely glow to distract from my lack of restful sleep.

I also must add: my under-eyes have never been softer.
They are seriously SO smooth and silky and I know it's all thanks to the intense hydration that benefit's fake up provides.

The downsides to fake up? Nothing too serious.
Because you have to rub the product onto your skin it loses its pretty and clean appearance (though really, I couldn't care less; I just know some people that would be bothered by this) and you don't get much product for the price. I twisted the product as far out of the tube as I could and, as you can see, it's pretty tiny!! It's a little early in my love affair with fake up to say how long this is going to last me but my makeup lust is trying to stay positive and say that my $24 hydrating concealer stick will last at least a couple of months.

Also, this only comes in three shades (which I don't think I need to tell you isn't enough to cover the spectrum of skin colors in the world) but, because it's a sheerer concealer I think quite a few different skin tones could make each shade work for them (I have mine in the shade 01 Light).

Ahhh l'amour...

Have you tried benefit's fake up?
Love it? Hate it?
What's your favorite under-eye concealer?
Do share!!

xoxo - Cassie

  3. I WANT THIS. DANG YOU. DANG YOU TO HECK BECAUSE THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE MOST PERFECT THING THAT I NEED BECAUSE I HAVE SCALES TOO. Whoops, was my keyboard in caps? LOL, silly me. Great review, Cassie! Haha, I like how you added things you know would bother others but wouldn't bother you, so considerate. I wouldn't mind rubbing/patting it in. It makes me feel all professional when I do :) Buh-bye money!

  5. Cassie,
I should stop reading your blog....it is costing me sooo much. I have not had the best of luck with Benefit items, but this sounds like a winner. I may have to try it out. My under eye circles are atrocious, and now I have the wonderful little wrinkles to top it off.
Thank you for buying it first. LOL

    1. Haha that seems to be the general consensus here ^^; Sorry wallets!! Definitely give this a swatching the next time you're at Sephora as I think it may be something, based off of what you said, you would love! :)

  6. I haven't but my god I want it! It looks amazing and I love the close ups of the product. It satisfies my craving just a lil bit. I am completely sold on this. I think it's really innovative and my poor bank balance is going to suffer :P

  7. Thanks for the review and the pictures! I'm on a shopping ban and this is the only makeup item I'm really lusting after. It sounds like it could replace eye cream in the morning too.

    1. Absolutely, I love doing these reviews for you all!! And yes, this absolutely takes the place of an eye cream in the morning... it might be too much to have the two things layered on top of each other so yay for a two-fer! :D

  9. Thanks for this review, I have heard of this being recently released but wasn't sure what on earth it even was :p Interesting ... concealer with a ring of solidified Vaseline around it :p But I can really see the difference it made to your undereye area - it really seems to work superbly on you! But agreed, doesn't look like you get that much product for the price.

    1. Ha yeah it definitely takes a bit of investigation to figure out what exactly benefit's fake up is at first. Glad you think it looks nice though!! My under eyes are definitely something that I'm always trying to sort out haha.

  11. Giiiirl!! Sadly (and I say sadly because it means more makeup purchases and spending lol) you have completely convinced me on this!! I really had the impression that it was gimicky because of the ring of moisture thing. I had no prior interest on getting this buuuut after reading your review and seeimg pictures I feel like I HAVE to have this because it seems like it feels and looks nice. I don't care about super heavy coverage either, as long as my undereye area doesn't look powdery.
    I'm sold :)

    1. hahaha I had NO idea that I was such a good sales woman before starting this blog!! Maybe you can make this your final bam-pow purchase before a spending ban? ;) It really is absolutely wonderful and I had the same apprehensions as you; it seemed like such a gimmick but I knew I needed to try it anyways and I am far from displeased... I am IN LOVE!! No worries about powdery under eyes with this little beaut <3

  13. I had an allergic reaction to the last benefit product I tried, but... this interests me. Yes indeed it does.

I have a fashion request for you...I would LOVE if you did a "How I Style: Oxford Shoes" post. I have some and I'm just so convinced they look silly on me so I'm too scared to wear them in public. I think it would help to see how a real girl wears them as opposed to a hollywood starlet.

    1. Oh no!! Maybe give this a good swatching in store and see how your skin reacts before making a purchase :)

And absolutely babe!! The oxfords I have right now aren't 'typical' oxfords (my old ones that were pretty classic oxford style died pretty soon after I moved to Boston T__T) but I would LOVE to do that for you!! Haha I'm glad I'm a real enough girl to help you out and shall do that for you very soon... I think they're an essential and doubt you look weird in them so I'd love to show you the light!! <333

  14. It seems like it's a good product to conceal those eyebags. I wish we have that product here in the country. You made a good review though. Take care. :)
