I've been on the hunt for the Spring 2014 L.E. Maybelline Color Tattoos (it's never gonna happen but I'll be damned if I go down without a fight) and each time, though I'm able to find the L.E. lipsticks, face powders, etc., my hunt proves fruitless. They are, as far as I'm concerned, going to remain beautiful unicorns to me (the inner sobs are real my friends) but alas it is what it is and I really don't need anymore makeup. That being said I don't need anymore nail polish either; the Maybelline Color Show "Gilded Rose" is ALWAYS next to the Maybelline L.E. displays though and nearly every time I see it I nab it and then force myself to put the beautiful bugger back.
Plus, who needs another nail polish when you can just make the darn thing yourself with a combo of polishes you already have? Ahhh~ there's the wonderful thrifty side of my brain hard at work; saving me dollars and regret one makeup/clothing/whatever item at a time!!
Like said I don't actually own "Gilded Rose" so it's semi-impossible for me to say whether this is an exact dupe of it or not but, from a gander and comparison of swatches online, I think I truly nailed it (that pun has never been more appropriate). I think you could use any sort of an opaque shimmering gold as your base color but Revlon's "Sparkling" really did bring everything together and turned this into "Gilded Rose". "Sparkling" is one of my favorite glitter polishes (as I'm sure you can tell) even though it looks like a fairly boring pink top coat… I can assure you though: it's worth the purchase and goes well with so many other nail polishes!
Super pretty right?? I personally love the way this turned out and am surprised I didn't think of it on my own (I give myself far too much credit, haha) before being inspired by "Gilded Rose" on the drugstore shelves. It looks great out in the sun and is perfect for that 'Spring' mood I think we're all in… I know I'm more than ready for Winter to be over, that's for sure! Winter this year wouldn't be feeling so long and awful if it wasn't a constant ping pong match of mid 50's one day and then upper 20's the next. It's just confusing and makes planning anything (what to wear, how long the commute is going to take, should I not wear eye makeup because I know my eyes are going to be crying a river in the arctic wind, etc.) nearly impossible!
Blech/ahem/anyways.
Do you think I nailed this nail polish dupe?
Love it? Think it missed the mark?
Have you ever recreated a nail polish you saw in store?
Do share!
xoxo - Cassie
I'm usually able to find them at KMart, if you have any of those near you!

Thank you! I honestly have no idea if there's a Kmart around here but I'll have to check :)
DeleteJESUS H! THIS NEEDS CAPS. I have been stalking several Walgreens and CVS to NO AVAIL. I can't find the new Maybelline Color Tattoos and I really want Caramel Cool :'( Beautyloverproblems! Anyway, gorgeous glitter <3
ReplyDeleteHahahah oh no Coco!!! Well I hope your search proves fruitful… I'm happy to report I finally found them (well, some of them); of course it happened like the day after I wrote this post XD Glad you like the glitter polish combo though!
Deletegorgeous combo and I've also been on the hunt for those tattoos...however, I think they just don't sell ANY of the LE collections in North Carolina at this point! What did we do to deserve this?!

Oh no Louise! Well I hope you find them super soon… it seems so dumb to me that they make them SO freaking hard to find in some states!
DeleteYou should see if you have any harmons by you, its the only store by me that ever has any new displays, plus the stock is really good there and they have nyx!
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely have to check because I feel like a lot of people have luck finding limited edition cosmetics there… thanks for the recommendation :D
DeleteI can get you Nude Compliment (I think), Beig-ing Beauty, or Pure Nude. There is a display at my Rite-Aid, and those three colors have gone relatively untouched. Sleek & Spice and Caramel Cool are gone, though (and I heard that Stroke of Midnight is kind of a piece of crap). Anyway, let me know if you want me to get you a couple. I'm pretty sure some of them are still there.
ReplyDeleteSent you a lovey dovey email <3
DeleteIt came out great! I own gilded rose and do love it, but not alone. I don't like that I can still see my nail so I do a base color. But the combo you have is what I wish mine looked like.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kayla I'm glad you like it!! Shame that it sounds like the actual polish is so sheer… I hate glitters like that :/ Maybe it would help if you put a gold base down first and just use it as a top coat?
DeleteVery beautiful !!! I love it!!!

Thanks so much Emi, I'm glad you like it!!
DeleteIt's perfection. However, it's a testament to just how much of a Eeyore I am that I thought about how hard this must be to remove. I really like the idea of creating a nail polish to save money too, us students must make sacrifices! X
ReplyDeleteHahah it's totally okay that you're an Eeyore (he was always my favorite) because I am too; it was awful to get off but OH-so worth it :) Anything to save a pretty penny!!
Deletethat glitter polish looks sooo good with gold!
ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie I'm glad you like the combo! :)
DeleteGilded Rose is very pretty, but I would actually recommend Finger Paints "Go Baroque". It is an EXACT dupe, applies like a dream and you get more per fl. oz. Maybelline polishes are not 15 ml or .5 oz, but Finger Paints polishes are.
ReplyDeleteOh nice, thank you!! If I hadn't come up with this D.I.Y. 'dupe' and was still in need of one I'd take your advice ^__^
DeleteI'm wearing Gilded Rose right now and I can say that yup, your version is pretty much an exact dupe! Awesome job, that's super clever! :)
ReplyDeleteOh yay thank you so much for the confirmation!! That makes me so happy to hear haha :)
