Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick "Rose Velvet": Swatches + Review!

Get ready for a roller coaster of a post (I'm assuming; I haven't written it yet haha) people. Something set me off this morning and I'm still recovering. I can handle all of the stupidity and hate that comes with working in customer service (you know, considering I've paid my bills/expenses by fake-smiling my way through the industry for nearly 10 years now) but getting a long and hateful comment on YouTube…
well, that was a new experience for me.

So I decided to cheer myself up by ordering Dominos (the Easter money I posted on my Instagram was well spent on Cinnastix and Parmesan Bites rather than chocolate this year), watching a string of Trisha Paytas' videos (she's my favorite, don't even get me started), and remembering all of the beauty in my life… specifically in the form of beauty products. SO. APPROPRIATE. And considering I haven't been able to keep Revlon's Super Lustrous Lipstick "Rose Velvet" off my lips since purchasing it a couple weeks ago, I figure it's about time I showed it off to you all on the ol'blog.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love the way that Revlon lipsticks look when they're brand spanking new. It's probably just me but there really is something about the top slanted plane of the lipstick that makes me undeniably happy. It makes it that much more painful for me to taint the tube but "Rose Velvet" needed to go on my lips. Immediately

How this lipstick has remained under the radar (or maybe just my radar) in the beauty world is beyond me; it is such a beautiful everyday nude and I could see it working on a large spectrum of skin colorings. "Rose Velvet" is your typical rosy-brown so it gives your lips a wash of color and pop of sophistication in a way that only these hues can. Don't get me wrong, pinks and mauves can be subtle and nude-y as well but there's something so utterly je ne sais quoi about these more muted shades that I just can't deny.
The other appeal of "Rose Velvet" (apart from the name, I mean come on) is hands down the formula. Revlon nailed it with this one; ultra creamy, ultra pigmented, ultra perfect. Finish-wise it's that perfect blend of not too matte and not too glossy, plus it stays on my lips much longer than some of the sheerer Super Lustrous Lipsticks Revlon has on the market (i.e. "Jungle Peach", "Primrose", "Coralberry", etc.).

Bam-pow! Beautiful. Seriously I'm beyond in love, this is just pure, blissful, immaculate infatuation.
Do check out this lipstick if/when you get the chance because, like said, I can see it looking absolutely lovely on a multitude of people.

Cassie, where's that emotional roller coaster you were talking about at the beginning of this post?
A very good question my darlings! I think I got carried away by the loveliness of this lipstick because I kind-of-sort-of definitely forgot I was feeling bummed. Excellent diversion if I do say so myself! But I suppose I'll lean on you all a bit and let you in on what happened…:
I got a hate comment. And I know, I know, it's all very trivial and silly but… well… it got to me. It was posted on one of my most recent videos and, to put it very lightly, it doesn't feel good. Clearly, being on YouTube and whatnot I knew that this day would come but for some reason it feels a whole lot worse than I ever thought it could/would. It's not like I haven't dealt with hate in 'real' life either but I think since it was such a long and fleshed out comment (essentially on how "annoying" and upsetting I am to watch) it made it so that I took it to heart in a really big way. Maybe it's the "Minnesota nice" in me. Maybe it's monthly hormones. Maybe it's the fact that they also hated on my love for Galileo. Yeah, actually, I'm going to go with that last one; mess with Galileo and you mess with me in all the wrong ways. If loving my cat (my child) and treating him like I would a human (my family) is offensive then the problem clearly lies elsewhere. I can only hope that this person doesn't have a pet of their own because, if you ask me, when you decide to take in an animal then you signed up to make its life the best possible and full of all the love you can provide (which for me is a whole darn lot with this expansive heart of mine).

I don't know where I'm going with this though… essentially I know I need to grow a thicker skin but it's just something I've never been good at. Putting on a strong face is something I've always excelled at but I really do internalize these sorts of things whether I know the hate is valid or not. Le sigh. Like said I just need to focus on the good in my life because it SO outweighs the bad.
I have food!
I have shelter!
I'm employed!
I'm following my dreams!
I have THE MOST caring and supportive friends and family a girl could ever ask for!
I have the day off!
I can take a nap and cuddle with Galileo!
Awww yeahhh (to my hater, that last one was directed at you ٩꒰ಂ˘ ▿❛ಂ꒱۶♡)

Have you tried the Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick "Rose Velvet"?
Love it? Hate it?
How do you all deal with hate (if you receive any at all; I like to live in my happy bubble sometimes and think that most people don't have to deal with hatefulness even though I know this is far from the truth)?
Do share!!

xoxo - Cassie

  1. I'll have to try this color, looks amazing on you!! Have you tried the Bite Beauty lipsticks, they're a bit pricey but they also have that Je ne sais quoi property. I picked one up in Vouvray and I've been wearing it non stop for the past two weeks!!

Don't worry about the haters. You know what they say, haters gonna hate. You're too awesome and I love watching your videos. You're actually real and give really good and honest opinions on things. :)

  3. I consider myself very picky with the beauty blogs and videos that I watch. I work 9 hour days and really only have about an hour everyday to check these sites. Over a period of time, I have whittled my choices down to about 3 blogs and 5 youtubers. I view EmilyNoel videos because she is an expert in her field and her kitty is a little crazy…but fun to watch. Bailey Making it through the Midwest gives fast, to the point reviews, with no funny business. Why do I watch your videos and read your blog….because you make me laugh and your enthusiasm is infectious! I like your honesty and your ability to point out a face issue and make it not such a big deal, thus making me feel better about my own issues. Look at your hater as just another blemish of the face of life…they come and they go and no matter how much acne treatment you put on them, another is always in the works! Although you and I will most likely never meet, you make a difference in my little world and even in what I will spend my money on or not. Galileo is a lovely little boy and is certainly worthy of your love and affection. Thank you for just being you and for the positive impact and smiles you bring to the faceless many on the other side of the computer screen…..Kate (Oh and love the Rose Velvet…it will be on my to purchase list)

  4. It's amazing what people will say behind the safety shield of a computer screen. I know that if I was in your position I would be devastated - criticism is always really difficult, especially if it's hurtful, hateful, and not constructive. Especially someone like you, when you actually take the time to go through and read and reply to comments. Saying screw it is easy but it's hard to keep it from getting to you! I think you're the best blogger, you're candid and honest and hilarious, and you have many people who think you're absolutely awesome. So take heart in that! Thank you for everything! You're so awesome.

  5. If only Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks were available in my country. Sometimes the limited edition ones or commemorative ones are, but I haven't seen Rose Velvet. I really like that color!

By the way, I think I know which comment you're referring to. Sounds like someone has a case of the "edgy hater-itis" and she needs a healthy dose of "gtfo." Besides, some people purposefully do that to gain their own channel views. That unpleasant comment isn't even worth the eye roll that subsequently followed it.

I think you're absolutely marvelous. Much love from Japan.

  6. Okay 1) I hadn't realized you're a fellow Minnesotan! Awesome! 2) What low life takes the opportunity to think up some mean, thought out comment to leave on a YouTube video? How rude! Clearly this person has issues they need to deal with if leaving hate mail is on their "to-do" list. Personally, I love watching your videos... you're real and genuine and you have me laughing out loud in nearly every video! Keep your head high and keep the good stuff coming! :)

  7. The hate people spew from behind their computer screens often has nothing to do with their victim and everything to do with the hater themselves. Insecure, angry, sad people who don't know how to deal with it other than to take it out on a complete stranger (and her adorable cat - the nerve!). Just remember we love you! You are honest and hilarious and seriously one of my favourite bloggers. So cheer up girl - you are awesome!!!
P.S. I'm now addicted to Trisha Paytas.

  8. I think you are fabulous to watch! Your reviews are super in depth and I am constantly scrolling through and checking for new ones on products I want to try out! You are super funny and I love your sense of style. Don't listen to crappy youtube trolls they just wish they could be as awesome as you are. Also I adore the super lustrous lipsticks, unfortunately I can't get the limited edition ones they just came out with since I am from Canada but hopefully I can hope over the border soon to hunt them down, Oh and I don't know if I just haven't looked back far enough but do you ever do posts about your art? I've seen you painting in a few of your videos and would love to see more, you are insanely talented!

  9. Aww, Cassie :( Honestly, anything that is mean-spirited and offensive points to an underlying problem within the commenter. Yes, we don't have to like everyone, but that's why we don't HAVE to interact with everyone. Specially in a video, where you can just "x" out. It's so ridiculous for someone to go out of their way to cause offense or pain to someone unprovoked and they must lead a sad life or have some underlying insecurity. I'm so sorry you experienced your first hate comment. It's a horrible experience but one you can learn from. And the more you grow the more you might get them. With success comes exposure and with exposure come the people who are pressed for not having the confidence to pursue a hobby or passion.
P.S. That lip color is super gorgeous!
    Lots of love <33

  10. First and foremost, I have to say that I saw the aforementioned comment, and I thought it was the most ridiculous display of self-hatred I've seen in a long time (and I just finished my psychiatry rotation, so I have seen self-loathing like you wouldn't believe). I even had to reply because I thought it was a cry for help rather than anything having to do with you.

To counter all that misdirected snark from one bad seed, here are some fun facts about why you're one of my favourite YouTubers: 1) you have a cat named Galileo whom you love very much and you were one of the reasons (among many, of course) that I thought about adopting a little cuddle butt of my own, 2) you aren't afraid to set some high standards for makeup - YouTube can sometimes feel like I'm watching a series of commercials but I know that I can trust you in times when other YouTubers are basically blowing smoke up my ass, 3) you show us your face without makeup and your hair without being done and that makes me feel better about myself when I run to the grocery store without my makeup because honestly who gives a fuck what I look like? Makeup is for me and no one else, 4) you do that finger-in-your-mouth trick to prevent lipstick from getting on your teeth and then you flip us the bird - that's fucking sassy and the world needs more sass.

So from a faithful subscriber, that person has some deep-seeded trauma that they basically vomited all over a comment; they would benefit from some counselling. You benefit from a kickass lipstick that reminds me to that 90s brown lipstick trend in an awesome way.

  11. You are actually the only beauty channel I'm subscribed to on Youtube. I watch all your videos, whether it's a review/best & worst/OOTW etc. With other beauty Youtubers, I'll go check their new videos every two months and watch one that looks kind of interesting, but that's it.
I guess that's because you're very relatable and honest, or at least a lot more than other beauty "gurus".
Don't let that stupid comment get to you (I never understood why people take the time to comment on something they apparently "hate".)

Anyway, that lipstick looks amazing on you. Not sure how it would look on me as browns make me look a bit... dead, ha !

  12. First let me say that I really like your videos (your best/worst of beauty) videos are my fav! And as a mom to a cocker spaniel, I perfectly understand your love for Galileo. He is a beauty and I enjoy seeing him in your videos.

I'm sorry this 'person' wrote you a nasty note, but don't let this person have power over you. It's not normal for someone to want to make someone feel bad. Why would someone do that?

    Keep making your videos :-)

  14. I'm so sorry about that nasty comment :(. It's complete rubbish though, you're one of the funniest youtubers around, you give us a glimpse into your life, and it's so cowardly to spread negativity on the Internet, to prey on people who put themselves out there and do something they love. I love your videos, don't let that idiot upset you, you're wonderful <3

  15. It really rustles my jimmies knowing someone has wrote a rubbish comment about you! you are my fave american youtuber and don't you forget it! you are a breath of fresh air to watch because you are you and you're real. just remember you have many loyal subbies/followers like myself and we enjoy the content you put out.

also, i can't seem to find this lipstick... /sigh at living in australia sometimes...

  16. People have nothing better to do with their time... Unreal!! Ever since I found your mac plumful review view a google search, I've been a fan. I read your blogs and just recently added you on youtube because I would always watch your videos via your blog. (Silly me for not using that search on you tube) lol.. Anywho keep doing what you do because your reviews are awesome and your videos are hilarious :) thank you for sharing your beauty with us :)

  17. Wow. How empty is that zero's life that the only thing s/he has to do with their times is spend it searching out and watching videos of people they say they don't like. I can't imagine a more barren and pointless existence.

  18. That lipstick is a beautiful color and looks fantastic on you! If you don't mind my asking, what's the wear time like?

Don't let nasty comments get you down. Your videos are fun, interesting, and always brighten my day! Plus I love seeing Mr. Galileo!

  19. I know what it's like to get a hate comment on Youtube. Basically, someone called me fat, but had a long spiel that I can no longer remember. I had a freak out that night, then, when I recovered, I blocked them and reported them to Youtube for harassment. If someone wants to take the time out of their day to hate on me, I have no problem reporting them. There's always going to be someone out there that is full of hate for obviously no good reason (I don't understand why people have to comment rather than just clicking out, personally), but you can't let that get you down. You're an awesome person whom I love to watch on Youtube, and I always look forward to your videos.

Plus, that lipstick color is gorgeous on your and, when I'm not on a no-buy, I may have to pick it up myself. I bought 'Plumful' because of you, after all!

    ReplyDelete
  20. You know...beyond the fact that I love you and Galileo to death, and of all the videos I watch on YouTube yours are the ones I look forward to the most...

I will never understand someone's need to leave a hateful message on anyone's video/post. Seriously, if you despise that person enough to leave (long!) message telling them, why are you bothering to watch their video in the first place? Seems like a waste of everyone's time to me...

I guess everyone's entitled to their opinion, but it sounds like they have some major issues, none of which actually involve you :)

Oh and you are awesome. Just thought I'd point that out :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. First off, love the lipstick, it looks fabulous on you! Now, like I'm sure everyone else has said, ignore the people who need to make others feel bad in order to feel something (I'm going to assume they're trying to feel joy). Whenever I have someone complain, or hate on me, I just ignore them, and actually accentuate the "problem" they take issue with. I was told that I was annoying because I was always happy, (I know what the crap?), and after that, I laughed all the time, and didn't stop smiling. Basically, ignore them, and they'll go away :) Keep on keeping on, because you're my fave!!
    XO Jackie

  22. You're on my top three beauty bloggers and YouTubers. I get so excited when you respond (which you usually do!!) to comments on Youtube and Instagram. I love how genuine you are, and if I were to ever bump into you in California, I wouldn't be afraid of talking to you (that's a lot considering how shy I can be.) You remind me of my best friend, in your love for Galileo (cats), your dressing style, your personality, and your decorating style. Your videos are funny, honest, and your energy is contagious. You're my favorite lipstick enabler, I love that you also shop at thrift stores..I could go on and on. My point being, there's plenty of us that love watching you, and you make my day better. <3

  23. Late to the game here, but I just wanted to add my support - your videos are wonderful and you're a great mom to Galileo. Whenever someone gets irritated by people treating their animals well, I get concerned about that person's capacity for empathy and love, and it makes sense that someone lacking in those areas would leave such an unnecessary and hateful comment. Some people just troll around the internet looking for things to piss on, just because they enjoy pissing on things. It still hurts, but try to not let stay with you - that person has problems that have nothing to do with you. Makes me think of my favorite curse for people like that: "May your life be as pleasant as you are." :)

  24. Verrrrrrry late to the game, but I was looking to buy this color and your blog was one on the options to view. I watch a lot of beauty videos, yours included. I am a fellow cat lover (and all other furry creatures as well) so I can relate. I love your videos because you are so warm and honest and yeah, I get hurt by mean people all the time, but that's what makes US lovable, we care. So you just keep on being you and you will be fine, just watch out for the users. Lovingly, Carol.
