October '12 Birchbox!

This month's Birchbox was one of their collaboration boxes. Granted, you had the option of picking whether you wanted this one or just a regular Birchbox but I couldn't decide so I let them pick for me. I'm both happy and sad with my box, but mostly very happy!

Take the jump to see what I got :)

For those who don't know (I had no idea), "goop" is an online website created by Gwyneth Paltrow (ewww...) that is supposed to highlight the everyday good in life. It shares recipes, health, beauty, etc through a weekly email (I think? Honestly, I have no idea but that's what I remember from looking at the site when deciding if I wanted this box or not).
While I wasn't completely tickled (okay, I didn't care for it at all) by goop's site, I don't have too too much to complain about with this box. Let's take a closer look at what I got, shall we?

First up is this lip perfection gel in the shade "Melrose". I would be reaaaaally keen to try this out if it wasn't for the freaking sample size!! As I'm sure you can see, this isn't much bigger (if at all) than the size of an aspirin and thus will only get me one use out of this... how am I supposed to know if I like something after ONE try? I can't, so this was pretty much a waste, but I'll still be trying it and let you know if I was absolutely blown away the day I give it a shot.

Alright, now THIS is something I was absolutely thrilled about receiving. I have gotten this exact sample from an order from Sephora long ago and nearly sobbed the minute it ran out since I can't afford to buy the full sized product.
Basically, the long and short of things is that this is, for me, a dark spot reducer. Caudalie says to put this on the face and neck, but I just use it as a spot treatment. It fades my dark spots like nobody's business and now that my skin is done "purging" from using my Olay ProX (aka cheap dupe for a Clarisonic), I have quite a few areas I'd like to fade away to perfection! So Birchbox gets a curtsey from me on this one.

Another big kudos to Birchbox on this one. Look at how massive this sample is!! And the packaging!! There is nothing cheap about this one at all and I am so excited to try this out once my current cleanser runs out. While I'm not too keen on the smell (it's a bit of a bitter herbal scent), I won't care if this does the things it promises. I trust it, too, since DDF is a REALLY pricey brand... I'm still kind of in shock that they gave out a sample this big!

I know, I know, we were on a bit of a high there but now I've got to bring you back down to normal. I'm not at all sure what to think of this sample since a.) it comes in the dreaded packet sample, and b.) it doesn't even say what color/shade I received. Le sigh, who knows, maybe I'll fall in love with this? I've never really heard anything about a tinted primer (other than color correcting ones like green primers) so maybe this'll be a great find.
Can I just add that I found it hilarious that they say to use a "pearl-sized" amount of product on your face? Like the general population has held a pearl in their hands long enough before to know the size of one hahahah.

So that was it for the "normal" products; let's move on to the "extras"! First off they provided a (full sized?) LUNA bar which is great. I love being able to throw these in my bag if I'm in a hurry and need a quick and handy (see what I did there? #punny4life) lunch.
And chocolate raspberry? Count me in!!

I was irritated to receive these tea bags since I have given feedback to Birchbox MULTIPLE times saying that I abhor tea. I've tried so many kinds and I just. don't. like it!! Blech. I'll have to see if I can give this away to someone since I will never use it, not even on a rainy day when I'm feeling bored and sassy.

So in closing, here is a really dejected photo of Galileo hahaha. He seriously can't stand the five minutes it takes me to look through and photograph my hauled goods.

Overall, I'm fairly happy with this box. The good items were REALLY nice to receive and the bad items were just slightly irritating so I really can't complain too much.

Do you receive Birchbox?
Did you get the goop version or the normal box?
Wish you got Birchbox?
Which items do you wish you could have received?

xoxo - Cassie

  3. I just started checking your blog out from a comment you left on J's Everyday Fashion and I keep seeing these Birchboxes. What girl wouldn't like samples each month?! What's up with these awesome boxes? Is there a monthly fee?

  4. Hi Jessica!! Thank you for checking out my blog :) Birchbox is a US based company that sends out monthly boxes filled with 4-6 (usually) deluxe beauty samples. There is indeed a monthly fee ($10.00) and a year's subscription is $110.00 (so you get one box for free, essentially). You can always go on their website to find out more (Google is your best friend here) so definitely check it out if you live in the US and want to get samples sent to you each month! :) I personally love it; and if you don't life in the US there are beauty boxes in the UK (i.e. Glossybox) and even Canada (I think it's called luxe button or something?).
